Introduction | 2

In the introduction I spoke quite a bit about what this unit was about and what I was expecting and when I went to the make up show and off to Harry Potter world. So I wanted to blog about my previous experience in special effects in a different blog as I didn't there to so much in one blog, and there is also a few pictures.

I have some experience with special effects whilst I was at West Thames college, although we created pieces out of cinewax and latex, I feel like I have a bit of confidence with the subject with regards of what objects created the wounds, but I wouldn't say I was that overly confident but hopefully this unit will make me more confident.
Throughout this unit my main worry is contaminating silicone A and B, if this will happens it means I will have to buy silicone tubs which wouldn't be ideal. I'm a little worried about trying to create the fork shape wound as they are going to have to be precise and probably a bit intrigue. My other worry is that creating a human hybrid that is nature related, but I am also really looking forward to learning about making prosthetic pieces with silicone.

Introduction

This unit I will be creating a prosthetic wound of which will be a fork with my partner, and she will be creating the same wound as me. Then when it is time to apply the pieces she will be my model then I will be her model, once that part of the unit is done, I will then be creating a human hybrid in which I will need to find a model who will let me apply prosthectic pieces on them to be able to create an effect hybrid.

I'm really looking forward to this unit as its always something I've always been interested in especailly by how they can change a whole character with prosthetic pieces, I've always felt like the makeup is the paint and the body/face is the canvas. The first time I was fascinated by the whole special effects was when I saw Harry Potter, although I've seen every film in the cinema thanks to my mums obsession, however it wasn't until I grew up that I found I was interested in how they created all the characters. I even visited Harry Potter world a few years ago and got to see how makeup artists would set up on creating on these characters as well as what all the goblins looked liked off the actors. After visiting this place it made me want to go into Tv and film even more just the thought that maybe one day I will be able to make things like this and to be able to say that I was apart of making something along the lines of this and to say that this is my job.

In the April before I came to uni I want to the UMAexpo, which was a two day make up event where you can sit in and listen to the professionals in a seminar and even get to involved in workshops. I really enjoyed going to this show both days as listening to people who have experienced what I want to do, and watching people apply all these prosthectics pieces that they have made was so fascinating and I do feel like I learnt quiet a bit. I also got to watch Illamasqua create a few day looks I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did, as well as listening in to Charles Porlier who is key makeup artist/ Make up designer in the US Tv hit The Killing, and I can honestly say that I am glad I went to his talk, I learnt a lot of new things and it even got me watching The Killing as I wanted to see what he work is like. I would defiently recommend going to this show, I'm hoping to go again in the coming years as well as going to IMATs.  Below are photos I took of sculptures the first one of the lady was so realistic that when I walked past I didn't even realise that it was a sculpture.
